AUTOCARBOOKERS JOINS ECOLOGI TO HELP GROW A FOREST
Sometimes you just have to read serious stuff, especially when you have control and can do something about it.
Firstly, no we have not gone all tree-hugger-esk and you won’t see us rock up for meetings wearing our flares and beads, but we do want to help the
world to be a better place for future generations.

We know that Covid has made us stop and think about this more than we would have before, we just took everything for granted.. now we don’t and it’s time to re-evaluate.
We live, breath and are passionate about an industry that has historically been a one of the largest contributors of pollution, and we probably don’t think about it, or if we do, we stick our head in the sand because after all, it is our livelihood and our passion.
Did you know there are two major types of emissions that impact the environment:
Greenhouse gas emissions – CO2 which can trap additional heat from the sun in the earth’s atmosphere causing the ‘Greenhouse effect’ and climate change. CO2 is the main greenhouse gas produced by motor vehicles.
Air pollutant emissions – hydrocarbons, oxides of nitrogen and particular matter that can lead to smog and adverse health diseases like respiratory illness, cardiovascular disease and cancer.
When you consider the following, it’s easy to see how quickly and easily we personally contribute to the major greenhouse gas problem and that’s before we’ve even jumped on a plane!
1 litre petrol = 2.3kg of CO2
1 litre LPG = 1.6kg of CO2
1 litre diesel = 2.7 kg of CO2
And it’s not just in the emissions from the cars themselves but of course from the production and manufacture of them too.
Some interesting quick facts:
As of 2am 26 Feb 2021, so 2 months into 2021 there have been 10,395,347 cars manufactured
On average we produce 67 million cars a year
By 2030 (9 years away) that figure estimated to be 127 million
But on a good note, cars are one of the most recycled products in the world, with approx. 85% of materials being reused.

We know the answer is to move to EV’s and the industry has already started making those moves with a number of companies already having EV’s on fleet including Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, Sixt and Europcar.
As an industry we see constant change and EV’s are going to be a huge pivot for us, though trucks and Heavy-Duty Vehicles represent approx. 5% of the vehicles on the road but they generate more than 25% of the pollution. So, we also need to focus on industrial vehicles as well as personal vehicles.
The team at Autocarbookers have a conscience and we are huge advocates of Carbon Neutrality therefore we have joined Ecologi to support their ‘plant a tree’ campaign doing our bit to reduce our carbon footprints.
We discussed at length what we can do to help and for our first initiative we are donating 10% of our salaries for 3 months to purchase trees. True, our little trees are not going to make a big difference to start with, but they will for our children and our children’s children and after all, we all need to start somewhere.
