C.A.S.E. the megatrends changing the automotive industry

What is C.A.S.E.

Connected – Autonomous – Shared – Electric and it’s the future of the automotive industry.  Industry megatrends are self-reinforcing and will likely accelerate the transition to e-mobility in the long term.

Toyota, for instance, plans to test this concept in action during the Tokyo Olympic Games. 

The OEM plans to deploy its Level 4 self-driving vehicle fleet to drive people around the Olympic Village.

And where does all this leave the vehicle rental industry?  Will the entire fleet move to BEV or PHEV? With the increase in cost this will need to be passed on in the way of rental fees.  How will customers react to this?  How will rental depots recharge vehicles in time to go back out again?  Will they need charging stations at the depots?

Will subscription revenues overtake rental revenues?  Hertz, Enterprise, Sixt are already offering subscription models, as are car manufacturers.  For an industry that seemed to be stationary (oh excuse the pun) for so long, suddenly there are a raft of changes all at once.  How exciting, need to be sure we don’t get caught with our pants down!
